Teacher Retention Model

In 2014, our teacher retention rate at Rocketship Education fell below 70%. In trying to unpack the root causes of teacher dissatisfaction at Rocketship, I introduced causal loop diagrams to the organization and engaged a group of leaders to discuss causal factors leading to teacher departures. The group included the Senior Manager of Talent Development, Director of Technology Solutions, and the Manager of Strategy & Scalability. Below is the model we discussed. This led to a rich discussion about teacher sustainability and central office's contribution to hours worked by constantly creating new initiatives.
